Cotton Burnt |
The train of the S. A. & G. R.
R. {Savannah, Albany & Gulf RR} which was
due here on Monday evening at 9 o'clock did not arrive until 7 o'clock
next morning {May 27}. |
The cause of the detention was
the burning of 96 bales of cotton, near No. 18, on the freight train
which left here early Monday morning. We learn that the cotton was set
on fire by the sparks from the engine, and besides the loss of the
cotton, the Railroad Company lost three flat cars, besides having some
two hundred yards of track burned. |
The balance of the train was
saved by being cut loose and run off. Loss considerable. |
