In Convention of Railroads,
held at Columbia, South Carolina, September 4th, 1862, action was taken
to fix a fair and just amount to be paid by the Government for the
transportation of Troops, and a just amount to be paid by officers and
soldiers for passage on furlough, and a fair amount to be paid by the
Government for the transportation of THINGS. |
This Company was not
represented in the Convention, but will acquiesce in the proceedings,
and be governed accordingly. |
The rate for the
transportation of things, and for passage over this road having been
fixed by a Convention of Roads, represented by Presidents and
Superintendents, on the part of the Roads, and by the Hon J. W. Lewis
representing the Confederate States; in view of this action, and the
thorough change that has been brought upon us in prices since the war
commenced, the rates of general transportation over this road have been
changed, and from and after the first day of October, for all THINGS
enumerated on a printed list, headed, |
Rates of Transportation on the |
Savannah, Albany & Gulf Railroad, |
dated Savannah, September 1st, 1860, called
a Freight List, an additional sum of fifty per cent. will be charged;
and in all cases where a deduction has been made from car loads, no
deduction will hereafter be made. |
Trains for special purposes
may be chartered, and the rate fixed, by the General Superintendent or
the Master of Transportation. |
