Distressing Accident |
We are pained to learn, a few
days ago, of the sudden death of Mr. Thomas C. Billups, of this place,
under the following painful circumstances: Mr. Billups was a member of
an cavalry company, stationed in Liberty county. He, with some of his
comrades, was on his way home on furlough. Having been on guard duty one
or two nights previously, the party went to sleep soon after getting on
the cars {Central (of Georgia) RR}. When
they arrived at Millen Mr. B. was missed. Upon returning, his companions
learned that he had fallen from the cars when they were running at the
rate of twenty miles per hour. It is well known in the circle of Mr.
B.'s acquaintance that he was an habitual somnambulist, and there is no
doubt that he stepped from the train while asleep. |
