The Soldiers' Fund |
We are gratified to be able to
state that the call upon our citizens for contributions in aid of the
Georgia troops on the Islands below Charleston has been and is still
being liberally responded to. The committee are purchasing and preparing
refreshments to be forwarded, and a sub-committee will leave immediately
to attend to their distribution among our brave troops. In this
connection, we take pleasure in publishing the following communication
from Mr. H. S. Haines, Engineer and Superintendent of the Charleston &
Savannah Railroad: |

I observe that you have
suggested to the citizens of Savannah to send contributions to the
Georgia troops now engaged in the defence of this city. |
Any contributions for such a
purpose will be forwarded by this company free of charge. |
