The Oglethorpe Escort Detachment in
Charleston |
Capt. Sims, of the Oglethorpe Light Infantry,
Company B, who left here yesterday with a detachment of his corps as
an escort to the remains of their late commander, Gen. Bartow, sends
us the following dispatch: |
Charleston, July 24th. The detachment of Oglethorpe were
received by the city authorities and conducted to the Charleston
Hotel. The kindness which has been heaped on us is excessive. The
present impression is that the remains of Generals Bartow and Bee,
and Colonel Johnston, of Hampton's Legion, will be here on Friday
morning, and lay in state for twelve hours at the City Hall. Gen.
Bartow's remains will then be accompanied by a military escort to a
special train provided by the Charleston & Savannah Railroad. If
anything further you will be advised. |
