Accident |
On Saturday afternoon, while
an engine to which a truck was attached was passing through Liberty
street, a small negro boy, about ten years of age, attempted to get on,
and missing his foot hold, fell between the engine and truck. The wheels
of the truck passed over both his legs, mangling them in a shocking
manner. He was immediately taken to a surgeon's office, and from thence
sent to the hospital, but he was so badly injured that he died before he
reached there. Coroner Eden held an inquest on his body. He belonged to
Mrs. Dr. Bealer, of Hardeeville, S. C. His sad fate should be a warning
to the gangs of idle boys who make it a practice to climb on the rear of
the passing trains, out of sight of the engineer. |
