Evacuation of Pensacola |
The Greenville (Ala.)
Observer, of the 7th, published on the line of the Montgomery and
Pensacola Railroad, says it is reported by passengers from Pensacola,
that that city is to be evacuated at an early day. The Government has
military control of the Alabama & Florida Railroad {both Alabama &
Florida roads}; no freight is received but that which belongs to the
Government. The Navy Yards and Forts are to be destroyed; the Custom
House in Pensacola is to be blown up; the saw and grist mills and all
other property that may be of benefit to the enemy will soon be a mass
of ruins by conflagration. The Alabama & Florida Railroad is to be
stripped of all the iron; but before that is done those citizens who
desire to do so will be invited to take seats in the cars free of
charge. |
