Protection of the State Road
{Western & Atlantic RR} |
Major Rowland, the
Superintendent of the State Road, has been energetic in providing for
the protection of the State Road and the bridges over it. At his earnest
request, we are advised that Gen. Ledbetter, who commands the
Confederate forces at Chattanooga, has detailed a sufficient guard to
protect all the bridges of the road from that point to Atlanta.
Bridge-burners, whether of Yankee or native origin, under existing
circumstances, will find bridge-burning a hard "schedule to run" on the
State Road. |
