Georgia Connection |
We learn from President
Houstoun that there is no longer a doubt of the speedy completion of a
connection between the Pensacola & Georgia Railroad and the Savannah,
Albany & Gulf Road. The points of divergence agreed upon are at Houstoun
on the Pensacola & Georgia and at Lawton (No. 12,) on the Savannah road.
Distance between the two points, 47 miles, 22 of which are in Florida
and 25 in Georgia. The contracts for grading, &c., have been given out
by both companies. The Florida contractors have already graded some two
miles of their contract and are to complete the whole by the first of
November -- payment to be in the stock of the company. The grading of
the Georgia end is to be finished by the first of January. This settles
the matter of this long talked of and important connection. It is
inevitably fixed. |
