Salt |
We mentioned a few days ago
that, from information received from Capt. Wikle, the agent of the State
at Virginia Salt Works, to receive and ship the State's salt to Georgia,
some unexpected delay would occur in its reception here, for the want of
transportation -- the military having taken possession of the East
Tennessee and Knoxville Railroad {East Tennessee &
Georgia RR}. We now learn, through the Commissary General of the
State that owning to prompt arrangements made, the State, has furnished
one of its trains of cars {from the Western &
Atlantic RR}, which will proceed from Dalton to Saltville today,
to transport the salt, and that five other trains, now being engaged in
transporting troops from Knoxville, will be put to the same good work of
transporting salt to this place. The arrangement will soon bring forward
the salt for our people, as designated by the Governor. |
