Railroad Accident |
An accident resulting in a
serious loss to a number of passengers occurred on the 5th inst., at
Littleton Station, a little over fifteen miles from Columbia, S. C., on
the Greenville & Columbia Railroad. The train was on its way to
Greenville, when, from some unknown cause, the baggage car attached to
the passenger train took fire, and was completely destroyed, along with
the entire baggage of the passengers. |
Among the losses from this
city are Capt. A. F. Warley C. S. N., Col. W. F. Colcock, Mr. Haskell,
Mr. Joel Ketchum, Mr. B. McCall, and others. Mr. McCall and family,
consisting of nine persons, were on their way to Walhalla, and lost
their baggage, including a large amount of Treasury bonds and other
valuable articles. Some of the above passengers we learn lost very
heavily -- one thirty thousand and another seventy thousand dollars. |
