General Order No. 8 |
1. The Camp occupied by the
State forces in the vicinity of Savannah, including the various Brigade
and Regimental camps as "Camps Jasper," "Iverson," "Capers" and
"Walker," shall hereafter be designated "Camp Lee," and shall embrace an
area of ten miles square, the line of the Canal from the first Lock to
the Railroad Bridge, being a portion of its eastern boundary. |
2. In accordance with the suggestion of Brigadier General
A. R. Lawton, commanding the Military Department of Georgia, the
duty of guarding the Central {(of Georgia)}
Railroad Depot, with a view to the enforcement of his various
orders already issued, and of guarding the various entrances to the
city of Savannah in the same direction, will be assumed by the State
troops so soon as the 2d Brigade shall have fully arrived. Special
orders will be hereafter issued as to the requisite details to be
made and the proper points to be guarded. |
3. With a view to the health,
good order, and effective discipline of the troops, the sale of Liquor
of any sort within the lies of the Camp is peremptorily forbidden, and
the Major General commanding specially charges all officers with the
duty of seeing that it is immediately suppressed, by the confiscation of
all intoxicating spirits which may be found within said limits at the
expiration of forty-eight hours from the publication of this order. |
