Our Railroads |
We are glad to learn that efforts are
being made to press on the railroad building from Berwick Bay to the
Sabine {the New Orleans & Texas RR}.
It is a line of connection in which the people of the whole State feel
a deep interest. |
We have been furnished by the courteous
Superintendent of the Harrisburg road, with the tariffs of charges on
that road between Harrisburg and Alleyton {Buffalo
Bayou, Brazos & Colorado RR}; also the charges on the
Galveston and Houston Railroad {Galveston,
Houston & Henderson RR}. It will be interesting to our
merchants to call at our office and look at the figures. The freight
from Galveston to Alleyton is, for barrels of 200 lbs. $1; and on
barrels of 300 lbs. $1.50. Shippers ought to ship to the railroad
warehouse and thus save expenses of forwarding |
