An Act for the Relief of Railroad Companies |
An Act for the relief of the Memphis, El Paso &
Pacific Railroad Company, and all other Railroad Companies. |
Section 1. Be it enacted by the
Legislature of the State of Texas, That that portion of the
Memphis, El Paso & Pacific Railroad between the city of Jefferson,
in the county of Marion, and Morris' Landing, on sulphur fork of Red
River, be entitled to receive certificates for land in number and
quantity as follows, to wit: Whenever it shall be made known to the
Commissioner of the General Land Office of this State, by report,
under oath, from the President and Chief Engineer of said Railroad
Company, that any division of five continuous miles is graded and
ready for the superstructure of said road, said Commissioner is hereby
required to issue to said company, in their corporate name, for each
mile thereof, ten certificates for land of six hundred and forty acres
each, which certificates when issued may be located and patented as
other certificates issued to said company under its charter provided,
that this act shall not be so construed as to extend to any other
portion of said road, nor that it shall be construed to grant any more
or any less lands to said division of said road than is now granted
under the charter of said road, and under the General Railroad Laws of
this State; provided, that the provisions of this act shall
apply and issue to the benefit of all the Railroads in this State, for
the distance of forty-five miles, now organized and having an existing
bona fide contract for the construction of not less than ten
miles. |
Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be
in force from and after its passage. |
