Air Line Railroad |
We are gratified to learn, that
notwithstanding the present excited state of political affairs, and
the consequent derangement of financial and commercial interests, the
Air Line Railroad Company, through their able President, Col. Jno. B.
Banks, have succeeded in securing provisions to sustain the present
negro force of 80 efficient hands for a year from the present date.
This will enable the Company to grade twelve and a half miles of the
road by the 1st of January 1862, and the recent extension of the
charter by the Legislature, giving the Company until 30th December
1863, to complete the first section of 25 miles, can leave no doubt in
the minds of the friends of this great enterprise, of its
success. |
The foolish rumor, that the Air Line force
was being employed to complete the Washington county Railroad is
totally unfounded. The contractors, Messrs. Catterton Williams,
are pushing forward the work under the terms of their contract,
towards the first station this side of Brenham, and is, we understand
of a character excelling any "earthwork" yet made in the
State. |
Let the friends of the "Air
Line" take courage, it will be built, notwithstanding the
prophecies of its enemies. |
