The Air-Line Railroad |
We are glad to learn that this road is
progressing rapidly, in spite of the pressure of the times. Messrs.
Catterton and Williams, contractors for the first section of five
miles, passed down last week with seventy-five able bodied negro men
to work on the contract. We learn further that there is a prospect of
still more of the road being put under contract in a short time. Col.
J. R. Banks, the president of the road, deserves great credit for the
ability and energy he has displayed in the management of its affairs.
We wish it success. It is absolutely necessary to the continued
prosperity of our city, and the development of the resources of the
fine country which is dependent upon us for a market. |
