NP, SB 8/7/1863

From the Southern Banner (Athens, Ga.)

August 7, 1863

From Mississippi
Several gentlemen arrived in the city last evening, direct from the seat of war in Mississippi, who bring us rather gratifying intelligence from that State.
The Federal raiding parties have all retired to their old lines, apparently satisfied with the various punishment they at various time received. ***** The injury to the Mississippi & Tennessee railroad has been repaired, and our advantages previously enjoyed in obtaining supplies but slightly decreased. On the Mississippi Central road, no destruction occurred; on the contrary, we learn the transportation facilities have been greatly increased. Daily communication by rail has been established to a point greatly in advance of that previously reached.
