Sheridan's Raid |
***** |
A complete reconnaissance of the Orange & Alexandria
railroad shows that all the bridges between Charlottesville and North
Garden were destroyed including the large structures over North and
South Hardware, Rockfish, Tye river, Turner's creek and Buffalo --
aggregating about 1,500 feet in length, with about six miles of railway
track more or less injured, and all the depots east of Amherst, with the
exception of Lovington and Tye river. {The damaged
section was from Charlottesville south toward Lynchburg about 45 miles.} |
