Boy Killed by the Cars |
Yesterday, about twelve
o'clock, William Harris, a free negro about fourteen years of age,
while stealing a ride on the Camp Lee train on the Fredericksburg road
{Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac RR}, Broad street, fell
from the cars and was instantly killed by the wheels of the passenger
couch, which passed directly across his head, cutting it in two. The
accident occurred as the train was passing Third street. |
Notwithstanding the frequent
fatal accidents that occur from the practice of riding on the outside
of the trains on Broad street, all the efforts of the railroad
officers are unavailing to keep the boys off. The danger attending the
practice seems rather to lend it a fascination. |
