| Late Freshet |
| Our Southern exchanges, a large bundle of which has
just reached us, give indications of much damage to the railroads, &c.,
by the late heavy rains. |
| The Muscogee and the Montgomery & West Point Railroads
have suffered terribly. On the latter road three bridges are gone and
the road was submerged for several miles. |
| The town of West Point was submerged up to the car
floors. A great number of cows and swine were drowned. The telegraph
operator went to his office in a boat. |
| The bridge over the Chattahoochee is safe. |
