Rebel Blockade Running |
Newbern, N. C., Thursday Aug. 13 |
A conscript just from Wilmington, N. C.,
reports that within the past few days seventeen large steamers have
arrived at that port, having run the blockade, loaded with stores for
the rebel army; among which are 96,000 English rifles, 100,000 army
blankets, 130,000 ready-made uniforms, 23,000 cases of ready-made shoes,
11 locomotives, 6 rifle cannon, heavy calibre, five cargoes of railroad
iron and skilful men accompanying them. |
{This report is from a
Confederate deserter conscript, is printed in a Union newspaper in
Newbern, N. C., and is not confirmed (regarding the locomotives and RR
rails) in any Confederate document or newspaper that I have found.} |
