The Chatham Railroad |
At a meeting of the Commissioners
appointed in the Chatham Railroad Company held in Raleigh on the 3rd
of April, 1861, it was |
Resolved, That George W. Mordecai,
Dr. Thomas D. Hogg, David G. Fowle, Kemp P. Battle, Silas Burns, A. F.
Page, Jas. E. Allen, Williamson Page, A. J. Morris, A. Leslie, Thomas
J. Utley, Geo. W. Norwood, W. H. Harrison, Dr. Wm. J. Hawkins, R. S.
Tucker, S. H. Rogers, D. M. Yeates, R. M. Brown, Minton Johnson, R.
Paton, N. Clegg, W. J. Sloan, J. N. Clegg, J. W. Farish, J. H. Farrart,
J. W. Scott, J. A. Womach, H. H. Burke, Brooks Harris, R. G. Frazier,
J. H. Lassiter, Nathan Clark, Dr. R. J. Fooshee, Thomas Womble, E. P.
Farrington, M. D. Williams, Be appointed a Committee to open books and
solicit subscriptions, for the purpose of surveying the nearest and
most practicable routes from Raleigh or some point west of Raleigh not
exceeding twelve miles, for building and constructing a Railroad with
one or more tracks to the Coal Fields in the county of Chatham, and
payments made for that purpose shall be in part payment of any stock
hereafter taken in the Chatham Railroad Company. |
Resolved, That when the sum of
$8000 shall be subscribed by solvent individuals, the Commissioners of
said Company shall proceed to elect an engineer to make the survey and
plats of the different routes under their direction. |
Resolved, That one fourth of the
sums subscribed shall be payable on the 1st June, one forth on 1st
July, one forth on 1st August, and one forth 1st September, 1861, to
Dr. Thomas D. Hogg, President of the Board of Commissioners. |
The Committee above named are to report on
or before the 3rd Monday of May, 1861, to Dr. Thomas D. Hogg at
Raleigh, whereupon it shall be his duty, as soon thereafter as may be,
to call a meeting of the Commissioners. |
