Railroad From Manassas to Centreville |
We are informed that laborers are being
hired, through the Quartermaster's office of this city, for the
immediate construction of a railroad from Manassas to Centreville. As
it is estimated that the work will require some months for its
completion, a strong indication is afforded of the intention of our
forces to winter in the region of the Potomac. We observe that negroes
are almost daily sent from Petersburg, and the service of a lot of
some fifteen or twenty were secured yesterday. General Johnston's
orders are very positive, and ask for many more than have yet been
sent to him. |
