Weldon |
The enemy appears to be extending his
lines from Newbern to Suffolk, indicating an early advance upon the
Wilmington Weldon Railroad at the most assailable point. Weldon
is evidently one of the objects of his design -- a point of the utmost
importance to the safety of Petersburg and Richmond, and, indeed , of
the army of Virginia. Should the enemy get possession of Weldon, it
will of course cut off one of the main channels for reinforcement and
feeding the army. |
