Railroad Presidents |
A meeting of several of the Railroad
Presidents of Virginia and this State met in Richmond a few days ago {December
19, 1861}, at which Dr. Hawkins of the Raleigh & Gaston
Railroad presided. The object of the meeting was to enquire into the
condition of the several Roads, to ascertain their wants in regard to
rolling stock, iron, &c., and the best method of supplying the
Roads with the necessary means of performing the immense labor now
thrown upon them. A resolution was passed advising a transfer of the
effects of that part of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad under the
control of the Southern Confederacy, to the Railroads of the South.
Besides this, they agreed upon some plan for establishment of rolling
mills, &c. |
