The Chatham Railroad |
An election will be held in this city on
4th of next March to ascertain whether the city shall subscribe fifty
thousand dollars to the capital stock of the Chatham Coalfields
Railroad. We think the citizens of Raleigh will act with becoming
spirit in this matter. The importance of this road need not be pointed
out, nor need we say one word on the necessity of developing the great
mineral wealth of the Chatham district; but we should remind the
people of Raleigh of the inestimable advantages to the prosperity of
the city in having it connected by railroad with the coal and iron
mines. A desire exists to connect them with Raleigh and the proposed
subscription will undoubtedly fix the terminus here. Vote, then, for
subscription. |
