Central Railroad Guard |

The persons in the employment of the
Virginia Central Railroad company, have formed a company for home
defence, and elected H. D. Whitcomb, Captain; C. J. F. Netherland,
First Lieutenant, and J. A. Falstead and B. H. Warton, Second
Lieutenants. The non-commissioned officers appointed by the Captain
are as follows: J. M. Macon, 1st Sergeant; W. F. Adcock, 2d; J. W.
Hecker, 3d; R. M. Fountaine, 4th; S. K. Chiles, 1st Corporal; J. A.
Netherland, 2d; J. N. King, 3d, and C. W. Hunter, 4th. The company
consists of 100 men, who are commissioned as "home guards,"
subject to the order of the Governor of the State, and have adopted
the name of "Central Railroad Guard." They are armed with
the altered smooth bore musket, and are drilled every evening at 5
o'clock, all business on the road being suspended after that hour for
the purpose. |
