Piedmont Railroad |
The Danville Register says that the
freight trains on this road commenced running on the 23d of November.
In a short time transportation can be had over this road as far as to
Reidsville, which is about half way between Danville and Greensboro'.
The interval between these places will be supplied with wagons, until
the completion of the road. We understand that it is the purpose of
the Confederate Government to put a large number of wagons on the road
between Greensboro' and Reidsville at an early day, for the purpose of
transporting supplies of corn and bacon from the Gulf States for Gen.
Lee's army, and that depots of provisions will be established for the
storage of large quantities of supplies at Danville and Greensboro',
and at intermediate points between these places. |
It is thought that with the present
working force employed on the Piedmont road, the cars may probably run
through by the 1st of July, 1864. |
