The Legislature of Alabama has, as we
learn, passed an act making it compulsory on the officers of railroad
trains, to have the carts properly warmed, and duly supplied with
water for the use of the passengers. The subject is not unworthy of
the attention of our own Legislature. There are frequent and just
complaints of neglect in these respects, from which passengers in
general, and invalid soldiers in particular, suffer extremely. No
doubt it is more troublesome and costs more to furnish these
accommodations at the present time, than was the case formerly, but
the railroads are making great dividends, and are not required, by any
necessity for economy, to withhold these comforts from their
passengers. |
