From the Raleigh Register

March 1, 1862

A terrific gale of wind prevailed in Richmond and Petersburg on Monday last, prostrating shade trees, fencing, &c, and doing other damage. In Richmond the roofs of several houses were blown off, and a portion of the Richmond & Petersburg railroad bridge was blown down, in consequence of which our Richmond mails have for the past two or three days been delayed for 24 hours. In Petersburg the tall and handsome steeple on Dr. Pryor's new church on Heigh street, was blown down, and other property damaged.
