Virginia State Convention |

Railroad Connection |
After three quarters of an
hour in secret session, the Convention caused the doors to be reopened,
and proceeded with the ordinary course of business. |
Mr. Morris presented an
amended ordinance, to take the place of the ordinance passed a few days
since, authorizing the Richmond and Fredericksburg and Petersburg and
Richmond railroad companies to extend their roads so as to connect with
one another through those cities. The amendment gave the right to the
companies to use, on the connections, the cars and motive power of
Southern roads; and authorized the companies to enter at once upon any
property through which it is necessary to lay the road without waiting
for the usual process of the law by which such property is usually
condemned. |
Mr. Wysor moved to amend by a
proviso that no property containing dwelling houses be included in this
ordinance. |
The subject was finally
temporarily laid on the table. |

The Railroad Question Again |
The question of the Petersburg
and Richmond railroad connections was again called up by Mr. Morris,
with the permission of the Convention, the regular business of the day
-- the ordinance relative to the interest on State bonds -- having been
thus far postponed. The ordinance, as amended by Mr. Wysor, as above
reported, was then adopted. |
