The Mails and Railroads |
With reference to the general
public complaint of the untimely and inconvenient arrival of the
evening's mail trains in this city, we learn that one occasion of the
change of hour in their arrival has been the recent change in the
{Richmond &} Danville road time table,
which has been in consequence of the refusal of the President of the
Virginia & Tennessee road to have the trains run after night during the
existence of the difficulties and excitement on the Western end of the
road. The effect of this detention is to delay the arrival of trains at
Lynchburg some two hours, and, of course, to retard the Danville and
South-side roads to that extent in order to connect at that point. |
On the Virginia Central
railroad the time of arrival of the mail train will be changed to 4:30
P. M., after the first of December. The trains on this road are now
running but three times a week West of Staunton, the travel not
justifying a daily line. |
