A Railway Rush |
On
Saturday morning, two box cars, on the temporary track on Broad street
leading to the {Virginia} Central Depot,
became detached from the principal train in some way, and moved off
slowly down the street. They were unobserved until they approached the
steep declivity, just below the Powhatan Hotel, when their speed had
increased, and it was then of course impossible to stop them in time.
Upon reaching the brow of the hill they darted down the track with
sudden and fearful speed, reaching the corner in front of the Central
Depot in half a minute, ran off, pitched into a tool shop on the other
side depot, ran against a fence, and concluded by getting smashed into
splinters against the earth. |
