Railroad Accident |
On yesterday morning, the
upward freight train on the Virginia Central railroad becoming short
of water at Sutton's, fifteen miles above Richmond, stopped for
supply, and the mail train coming up a short time afterwards, was
compelled to stop. Soon after this the material train, which had
followed the mail from Richmond, came along, and before the engineer
was aware of the danger, he was unable to prevent his train from
running into the rear of the other. Three of the passenger coaches
were considerably smashed by the accident, and thrown from the track.
Only one person was injured -- a soldier, one of whose hands was
severely crushed. |
The down mail on the Central,
was detained last evening by an accident to the freight train from
Fredericksburg, about fifteen miles from Richmond. {This
probably refers to the use of the Virginia Central RR track and trains
by the Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac RR while the South Anna
bridge was under repair.} |
