Some More Yankee Locomotives |
Two originally excellent locomotive
engines, built by Rogers, and belonging to the "United States
Military Railroad," have arrived by the {Virginia}
Central railroad, from Manassas, where they were taken in
August last, by General Stuart. They are styled "The
President" and the "Red Bird." Upon the sand-box of the
former, is a very well-executed portrait of Abraham Lincoln, and on
that of the other is painted a red bird. The boiler covering of the
latter, the smoke stack, copper pipes, and the wood work of the latter
are pierced with more than a hundred bullets from the guns of our
gallant men, which rained down a leaden shower upon the Yankee train
at the time of its capture. The "President" is similarly
pierced, though not to the same extent. -- They are presently lying by
at the Central depot. |
