Burning of the Bridges {on
the East Tennessee & Virginia RR} |
The bridge burning in East Tennessee over
which the telegraph grew so excited a day or two ago turns out to be
an inconsiderable affair. The Lynchburg "Republican" says
that accurate information shows that the bridge across the main stream
of the Holston was safe, but a short bridge, spanning the south fork
of the river, about 250 feet long, had been destroyed. The bridge will
be replaced in a few days with a trestle-work, which will enable the
cars to pass. In the meantime but little delay will occur in the
transportation of the mails and passengers. |
