Raid on the Virginia & Tennessee Railroad |
A party of bushwhackers and deserters made
a raid on the Virginia
& Tennessee railroad, nine miles east of
Bristol, on Friday might, cut the telegraph wire and fore up about fifty
yards of the track. The eastward-bound train, which left Bristol
at 1 o'clock Friday night, was in consequence of this damage thrown
from the track and the baggage and express cars smashed up. The track
was replaced in a few hours, and the train came on through without
further interruption. |
