Fredericksburg Railroad {Richmond,
Fredericksburg & Potomac RR} |
Though communication with Fredericksburg
is open, no enemy being at that point, the cars on the road, as yet,
are unable to proceed any further than North Anna river, twenty-five
miles from Richmond, owing to the condition in which the enemy left the road. The bridge
over South Anna and North Anna rivers were destroyed by the enemy. Our
forces destroyed the one spanning the Mattaponi. In all there are five bridges or pieces of tressel work to be
repaired before the cars can go through. It is expected, however, that
in two weeks the road will be in traveling condition from the Junction
to Fredericksburg, and that the mails will be sent that way. |
