Railroad accident |
We learn from the Columbus
(Ga.) Sun that a sad accident occurred on the Muskogee Railroad on
Friday last. The evening train for Macon, when some sixteen miles from
the city of Columbus, was precipitated into a culvert which had been
washed away by heavy rains. Mr. Douglas C. Moore and a negro boy were
instantly killed, and others severely injured. The engine,
baggage car and tender were smashed to atoms, and the baggage of the
Columbus Volunteers, who were on the train at the time, was completely
wrecked. Had the volunteers been in the car provided for them, few
would have escaped. |
