An unfortunate disaster occurred a few
hours after leaving here, by which ten men of one company, including
the Captain were seriously injured. One of the car
trucks gave way, which caused the car
to run off the track and turn over. The limbs of several were broken,
others were badly bruised and smashed, but no one killed. They all
belonged to the company raised by Col. Vaughn, now under command of
Capt. Morelock. He is the least injured among them, and thinks that in
a few days he will be well again, when he will proceed to join the
regiment. The accident occurred 20 miles east of this place {on
the East Tennessee & Virginia RR}. |
