The Railroad capture |
In the depot {of
the Alexandria, Loudoun & Hampshire RR} at Alexandria the
enemy found twenty or thirty freight cars and trucks, and two broken
down engines. The Zouaves found in the cars 2,000 kegs of gunpowder,
200 barrels of beef, $1,500 in doubloons, two cases of Colt's
revolvers, a box of double-barreled fowling pieces, several superior
Maynard's and Colt's rifles, and preserved meats, and clothing,
&c. The safe in which the doubloons were found was opened after
two hours exertion. |
