Small packages for soldiers |
A resolution was introduced into the Convention
yesterday and passed, requesting the railroads to convey, free of
charge, small packages for the soldiers. We are informed by Mr. W. A.
Duncan, an officer on the Orange
& Alexandria Railroad, now in this city, that for some time past,
that road has not charged soldiers for the transportation
of such packages. This is creditable to the road and we hope its
example will be generally followed. the packages alluded to are mostly
presents of things for the comfort of the soldier in sickness, the
gifts of generous persons and friends, and ought to have a free
transit to him. |
