Timely notice |
Col. Edmond Fontaine, President of the
Virginia Central R R, has given notice that the company over which he
presides will do everything in its power to transfer to this city all
freight sent to the railroad when the
cars are not pre-occupied with Government freight. The passage of the
impressment bill must by this time have convinced the farmers that
should the Government take their property for army use, just
compensation will be rendered. Many no doubt have hesitated to send
produce to market for fear this would not be the case. |
