Closing the distilleries |
Gov. Brown, of Georgia, has issued a proclamation ordering each distiller in that State to
desist absolutely from the manufacture of ardent spirits after the
15th day of March, 1862. The Superintendent of the State Road
{the Western & Atlantic RR} is
forbidden to transport any whiskey over that road, and other railroad
Superintendents are requested to do likewise. In case of distillers
refusing to obey this order, their stills are to be seized and sent to
Rome, Ga., to be manufactured into cannon; and all liquor brought near military
encampments is to be emptied upon the ground. |
