The burned Bridge at Lynchburg |
Lynchburg, Feb. 25 |
The portion of the bridge which was
destroyed yesterday afternoon was accidentally set on fire by coals
which fell from the locomotive which
passed over a few minutes before the fire was discovered. Two spans of
the bridge only were burnt. The bridge connected the island, upon
which the South-Side depot is situated, with the Virginia &
Tennessee depot. The accidental burning will prevent for some time the
running of the South-Side cars into the city, but will not materially
inconvenience travel, as the close connection of the two roads is the
only present difficulty. |
