Landslide, &c. -- damages to the {Virginia
&} Tennessee Railroad |
By a telegraphic dispatch from the
President of the above road, received here last night at ten o'clock,
we learn that there is a slide in, and culvert gone near Bristol,
Tennessee, also, a large slide at Seven Mile Ford, another at Madison,
one east of that place, the tressel work washed away; one slide at
Mount Airy, three near Wytheville, one each side of Martin's, and 126
feet of crib work gone; one slide at New River, and three on the
Allegheny Mountains. It will take some days' hard work to repair the
damages, which were caused by the heavy rains. In the meantime travel
will be suspended. |
