Mr. Magruder, from the Special
Committee appointed to confer with the Secretary of War, relative to a
detail of men to work on the Virginia & Tennessee Railroad,
in order to facilitate the transportation of salt, for the benefit of
the people of this and other States of the Confederacy, reported that
the committee had performed the duty assigned them, and that whilst
the rules of the Department were very rigid in regard to details, the
Secretary fully concurred with the Legislature in the necessity
expressed for providing all proper facilities for supplying the people
with salt, and that he would make this an exceptional case, and order
the detail asked for accordingly. |
