A railroad
charter has been granted by the North Carolina State Convention,
authorizing the construction of a road from Washington, N. C., to
Tarboro', in Edgecombe county. {This road
was to run north from Washington to Roanoke River, about 10 miles west
of Plymouth, then turn west to Tarboro. The total length would have
been about 63 miles. Since Plymouth and Washington were both in Union
hands for most of the war, no work was done on this road. I have not
yet discovered any evidence the company was organized during the war.} |
