The proposed Railroad connection |
The bill which passed the House of
Delegates, authorizing, a railroad
connection between Fredericksburg and Manassas {connecting
the Manassas Gap RR/Orange & Alexandria RR with the Richmond,
Fredericksburg & Potomac RR}, meets with violent opposition
in the Senate; yet we are not aware that any argument has yet been
used against the measure, which, when asked had a particle of
significance beyond the apprehended withdrawal of business from
another line. This, at any other period, would and should have due
weight; but in time of war every interest must yield to the warn law
of military necessity. It is to be hoped that the forensic displays
which have become so popular in the State Senate, especially since the
introduction of the bill in question, will not be resumed the present
week. The people desire the construction of the road, and the Generals
in our army recommend it. |
