Richmond & York river Railroad |
The annual meeting of the stockholders of
this company, which took place in this city on the 6th inst., has
hitherto escaped notice, owing to the multiplicity of events which, in
times like the present, engage the attention of the newspapers. The
most important business transacted during the meeting was the adoption
of the following resolution: |
Resolved, That from and after this day the
offices of President and Superintendent of this company be and the
same are hereby united in that of President; that the duties and
responsibilities of the same shall devolve on the President; and the
salary of said officer shall be $3,200 per annum, payable quarterly,
out of which sum he shall pay an assistant, if necessary to employ
one. |
Alexander Dudley,
Esq., was then unanimously elected President, in place of Robert
Stunders, Esq.; and Col. John Pollard Director on the part of the
private stockholders. Mr. Dudley comes back to the position, after a
year's retirement, to find the work for which he long ago made
untiring struggles and sacrifices, now universally acknowledged as a
great public necessity. |
The Board of Directors were authorized to
apply to the Legislature for such aid as may be necessary and
expedient. |
